What is the West Highland Way?

The West Highland Way is Scotland’s first and most famous long-distance walking route, stretching 96 miles from Milngavie (just outside Glasgow) to Fort William at the foot of Ben Nevis.

The trail takes walkers through some of the country’s most breathtaking landscapes—rolling countryside, the shores of Loch Lomond, remote Highland glens, and dramatic mountain scenery.

Following a network of historic drovers’ roads, military routes, and ancient paths, the West Highland Way is a journey through Scotland’s natural beauty and heritage. For many, completing it is a true physical and mental challenge, requiring endurance, determination, and resilience over several days of walking.

The reality of living with spina bifida and hydrocephalus

Spina bifida and hydrocephalus are lifelong conditions that begin at birth and often require ongoing medical care, including surgeries, monitoring, and specialist support.

For many, this means living with mobility challenges, fatigue, and additional health complications. But the impact goes far beyond the medical. Families face emotional strain, financial pressure, and the constant challenge of navigating complex healthcare and support systems. Parents become advocates. Children face barriers.

Adults work to maintain independence. With the right support, people can live full and meaningful lives, but they cannot do it alone.

That’s why charities like SBH Scotland are so important.

In a world that can make us feel different, the charity’s support means we are not alone.
